Marine Scout,

Don't let the truth get in the way of your BS agenda. Nice of you to taint the facts with an obvious smear. Next time, try reading the Washington Post or other real news outlets instead of relying solely on some Youtube video to get your story. Might help your credibility.

Seems to me you are behind the power curve. Try to keep up. This video is two months old. Check the date of the article below and see that the issue was resolved the next day.

For those interested in the real facts instead of your BS:

The Washington Post

Good: Senate GOP will lift block on subpoena power against BP

Okay, it turns out Senate Republicans are going to do the right thing and support giving officials the subpoena power to probe BP.

The Senate GOP leadership has decided they have no objections to legislation giving subpoena power to the White House commission probing the oil spill, and will not block the bill from moving forward, aides tell me. The move will cheer liberals and Dems who were hoping to move this towards passage quickly.

Last week the House near-unanimously passed legislation giving the commission that power, but yesterday, Senator Jim DeMint infuriated Democrats by putting a block on the legislation when a Dem brought it to the floor for a voice vote.

DeMint claimed he was doing this on behalf of unnamed GOP Senators in his caucus, prompting Dems to charge that Republicans were shielding Big Oil from a real probe.

But the Senate GOP leadership has informed DeMint's office that it has no objections to the legislation, and it will proceed, DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton tells me.

"Senator DeMint does not and will not have an objection to this legislation," says Denton. "He simply objected on behalf of other senators who had not been given time to review the bill. Now that they've had time to review it, it seems no one has an objection."

So why was this blocked yesterday?

According to a DeMint aide, he happened to be on the floor when a Democratic Senator introduced the bill for a voice vote. DeMint was told by GOP leadership aides to hold up the bill because leadership hadn't had a chance to read it, the DeMint aide says.

But now that the leadership has read the bill and decided it has no objections, it will move forward if a Dem asks again for it to be passed by unanimous consent.

In truth, it would have been politically very difficult for Republicans to block this. Their decision to let it move forward deprives Dems of a potent talking point. But it's a good development.

UPDATE, 4:17 p.m.: Don Stewart, a spokesman for Mitch McConnell, confirms that the leadership has no objections to the bill. "I don't know of any objections," he says. "What I do know is that there is bipartisan support."

Those crazy Republicans wanting to read a bill before they vote on it. Who the hell do they think they are?

“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it..." yup sure sounds familiar to me.

For starters I'm expecting more of the same in the BP investigation. Just like the 911 investigation started with the President and the Repubs, blocking the investigation. And again the pressure was so great that Bush had to reverse himself. In like manner the spotlight was on the Repubs and they didn't want the embarrasment so what did they do, reverse themselves. As far as wanting to read the bill by the next day, like the Patriots Act, they didn't (most). They were avoiding some 'pissed off' voters.

So far in watching the investigations the CEO admitted that they BP did not have the proper and neccessary equipment on hand at the time. This is a clear indication of negligence that led to the deaths of 11 people. We need Treble in here to indicate if this qualifies as 'criminal negligence'/ wrongful death.

Another fellow who was suppose to be an expert in hydrolic pressure, kept saying that he was not an engineer and couldn't/wouldn't answer the questions posed to him.

Eric Holders team disclosed that workers indicated to those in charge that said that they had a major problem and that the pressure was rising to dangerous levels, but because they were behind schedule they were told to 'increase' the drilling rate. And when what appears to be hydro-methane appeared and they finally decided to activate the BOP, it didn't work. They tried the backup switch, but 'the batteries were dead' yeah right!!!

There is much more, but seems like someone high up should be going to jail for a long time. But when we factor in the influence of big, big money ($1,300.00/second) a lot of coverup can be bought.

Keep watching!!

This is an independent commission appointed by Obama. I believe it reports directly to the President. So how's the Congress going to influence it? But that's neither here nor there. Your original thread implied that the Republicans were blocking the assignment of subpoena powers to this commission...which is not true. The intent of this Youtube video was to smear the Republicans.
