Oh, spare me, kingfish ... your words, not mine.

You like owning guns relatively free of government intrusion? Kids must not be important to you. And hey, do you beat your wife on Wednesday or Saturday?

Anyways, from what I've seen/heard/read most amber alerts are child custody disputes anyway, and the child is not usually in any imminent danger. Not putting down amber alerts or child-custody situations here .... I'm just sayin'.

Again .... your words, not mine. Is that your way of trying to make a case as to why we should all just accept this new technology that gives government increased intrusion powers into our everyday lives? Or are you just trying to shout me down with that?

Of course it's not the most important thing in the world to me. Neither are gun rights .... but I have a pretty strong opinion about that too. But hey, you like big gubbmint knowing & being in everybody's business I s'pose. Does it make you feel safer? Did you back Hillary or Bernie?

Ah .... okay. Well, since it's okay I can be tracked with my cell phone ... why not with my vehicle too!

Barring emergency circumstances, gubbmint needs a subpoena at minimum to do that anyway & sometimes a warrant depending on what level of intrusion into your device they want to do. Both of which require some level of suspicion. (been there done that)

They don't need any level of suspicion to automatically scan your plate as you pass by and see who owns the vehicle, what their address is, & where your vehicle has been that there's a scanner, (and there's more & more of them around ... you can't drive from here to New Orleans without getting scanned a few times & that info going into a gubbmint database. Probably can't even drive to the beach & back.)

When a police officer runs your plate ... it's a one-time thing for an articulable purpose specific to that particular situation. At least it was before a lot of this new technology came along. S/he gets the info they need, then continues with their traffic stop. Instant return on a license plate check can serve to enhance officer safety to some degree or other on a traffic stop (just as banning firearms would, some say), but it in no way ensures it. But when automated readers scan your plate and hundreds of others as they pass by ... & send it to a database that compiles your vehicles movements ... that's forever. And when private companies are contracted by gubbmint to do that on their behalf ... it's even worse.

Bottom line ... when my vehicle goes down the road and I've committed no violation, it's none of the gubbmints business who owns that vehicle, their address, their insurance/lien information ..... or where my vehicle's been previously.

Blackened 3 of them. Delicious.
Very nice.
Cold snap probably helped?

Undoubtedly. I'm sure enjoying the close trip to catch trout. In about another month, it will be a 50 mile round trip down to the rigs inside Ft Morgan, and pulling a trawl to catch croakers to catch those same trout. Should start seeing sheephead up in the bay pretty soon. That'll be a hoot.

But you can also choose just not to drive if you don't like what they say is mandatory to drive. Your choice. Just like at our office it is mandatory to pay 10% into retirement. We have a few that argue that they shouldn't tell you what to do with your money after you make it. But he we all got hired we signed the paperwork telling us this. So we all had the choice. If you don't wanna pay in then go work someplace else.

If you don't like the rules, don't drive. "When in Rome" they say ... and all that. I can accept that. I drive, I put the State mandated plates on my car.

But, what I can't accept is the idea we should never question gubbmint rules and must always accept the way it's always beeen, because, well, ya know .... those are the rules, it's how it's always been.

What you're saying here to my hears sounds not too unlike the people who like to say if there's things you don't like about America ya oughta just leave ... well, I don't buy that line either. There's a thrid option .... if there's things you don't like about your government or you think are not right you should advocate for change. Not run away somewhere else like a little girl, or just uncomplainingly accept things the way they are like some kind of peasant sheep because the gubbmint or some other kind of authority imposed it upon you.

This is true. Kinda like why can officers on the water just stop to check your stuff if no visible violation. We the people have been run over so much by government we just deal with it. Their really isn't anyway to get things back the way they should be. America is still better then any other country. But politicians have ruined most everything and there is no turning back. You can't fight back cause you will never have enough support no matter what

I agree.
Just believe that a country full of cars with no license plates or any way to identify them would be a massive clusterFu@k.

We should always question our governments motives. If everyone did, the democratic party would most likely not exist in the form it's in today.

And yes, I do know there is corruption on both sides.
