Just a heads up for anyone wanting this done or if you have been sitting on the fence about getting one. I am moving out of the area in May 2010. If you want this done, please get with me soon. Pleasedon't wait tilla stormisknocking on our door to call me.Because, I will not be able to get to you. Itreally is the best, safest, only way to go if you have a small to medium sized portable generator. Not too mention, I was bombarded last seasonwhen storms where out there and I could not get to everyoneat the same time. I can install a transfer switch that will handle a 30 amp or lessportable generator on 100 amp servicefor $350.00. This includes materials and labor. This means that you need to have a 100 amp or under main breaker outside of your home for this setup to work for you. Usually, most 7500 watt and below generators output 30 amps to thier 220V outlet. Mostportable generators above 7500 watts output 50 amps to thier 220V outlet. If you have a 50 amp portable generator, it's just slightly more due to wire sizes and outlet amperage ratings being more. This covers a standard installation of the switch and outlet next to your meter box. If the switch or outlet needs to belocated farther away due to other components(telephone box, cable box)mounted in the way, the price willbe slightly more due to extra wire and conduit needed. Just give me a call and I'll come take a look for free. No charge for meto come take a look and give you any info. This switch will allow you to switch from gulf power to your generator in a safe way. It will allow you to choose which circuits you want to power and you can change those circuits at any time in your house sub panel. I have been in the Electrical field for 10+ years now. Did commercial electrical work for 6 years and then went and got my Electrical Engineering degree. I got out of the construction side of things and now sit behind adesk all day. But I still do side jobs like this from time to time to help folks out and make some extra fishing money. I have installed one for FelixH, dockmaster, LyinDog, JoeBuck, Tdevil76, RUSTY, Promark, opus68, Tricktoo, dugf007, pirate@40something, Beached, and many other people that found me on the forumfor references etc... You can PMfor more details or if you want me to come take a look, free of charge,at possibly installing one. Here is a picture of the setup on my house with a paintshop label job so you can see what is what.

Jon did a great job on my switch install! Very clean job, looks great! I might not need it this year, but the extra peace of mind is well worth it. Thanks Jon

Not even close to hurricane season, but I figured I would give this a bump for anyone that would like to be prepared. Last year I did not post this till the season started and I was bombarded with work and I just want to get this out there for anyone that would like this done before the season actually starts. Last year I had people calling me up wanting it done right then and there and I couldn't because of the backlog of work.
$335.00 covers all material and labor for the basic install to handle a 7500 watt, 30 amp or less generator. Just shoot me a PM or call me up on my cell to come take a look. |

Bump for you, Jon.
Jon does some very good work! Very organized and clean install, which is the way I like things done. Thankfully, I haven't had a need to use the switch he installed for me, but it's there for when I do need it. Felix |

Jon did a great job for me. I have not had to use the switch yet (thankfully) but I do have peace of mind knowing that it is there. |

Thanks for the plug fellas. I just wanted to get this out there way before the season starts this time. Last time, I had too many to do in such a short time. This type of work is usually the type that people want to get done right before the big one and I can't get to them in time. So if your thinking of doing this get with me before the time comes whereyou need it.

I had Jon come and put in a switch for me back in October and never tried it until today. Lost power about 1300 for about 4 hours. Hooked up the generator and everything worked great. Thanks for a great job Jon.
Highly recommend Knot A Yacht. |
