Go do a little homework on the price of the reels, that is easy to find, four new shimano 80' and four new shimano 50's! Your also way, way off on new J&M Custom Rods!

I don't know who you're talking to, but if its me, you're barking up the wrong tree. I looked at your photos and you've got the standard off the shelf semi-custom rods they sell everyone. There are no Winthrop guides are special wraps so I'm not sure how you paid so much and believe me when I tell you I know exactly what these things cost. Anyway, you're coming off as a real jackass by posting that you've got 23k in 8 rods and reels that right now tonight list at J&M for $12,471.92. You could throw in a little extra for the storabutts and make it 13271.92 plus another $1000 in tax if you weren't having them shipped to Florida for free and saving the tax, but of course you'd have to discount a couple hundred on each of the 50s, but I digress. For whatever its worth, good luck with the sale. If you have the time, post the invoices. |

I have no idea why in the world everyone wants to get worked up about the price or cost of a rod and reel, what the hell! The only reason I put them on the site I thought someone local could use them and would want to buy them. I have been doing business with the guys at J&M for years and my first cousin has worked in the store for years. Why in the world it is such an issue I don't know, I put what I thought the invoice amount was and again can pull it up or have him pull it, if someone is interested let me know and I will have J&M pull the invoice and fax them a copy! If you have no interest in purchasing why even comment! They were special made and ordered, those are the guides I wanted, the rap I wanted and they have the boat name in them. I watched the guys build them, some of you guys obviously need something to do instead of getting fired up about the price of some rod and reels! Be cool, get fired up about the economy, new president or something that is an issue.

In Jimbo's defense, and, hopefully this will help, I sold the set to him and what's needed here is a little extra information. I can attest to the fact that those are not the off-the-shelf semi-custom rods. The rods you are referring to there are the Biscayne rods that come in 90% complete only needing the last coat of finish. However, Jimbo's set was indeed custom-wrapped by Lee Selman. The cosmetics do resemble those of the Biscayne's, but they are not. I could be wrong, but I also believe that these rods were made using Aftco Ball Bearing roller guides. Am I correct, Jimbo? You can tell if you look at the rollers themselves, there will be a little nylon case visible that contains the ball bearing. Also, I think we went with gold rollers, not silver, another little jump in price. And lastly, as he states, they are Store-a-butts, and the set I sold Jimbo had both curved and straight butts for each rod. Lastly, Jimbo, if I recall we billed you on that invoice for a couple of rods that were not part of the 8-rod set. Anyway, regardless of the original selling price, these are not ordinary, run-of-the-mill rods...there are some extras with them and they are 100% custom-built in Orange Beach, Alabama! Good luck, Jimbo!
Edit: Jimbo, you might consider adding some photos of the rods themselves to give folks a better idea of the overall look--just a thought. |
