I have not heard that "english" dogs had a more dense fur. I know they are typically smaller than "American" labs. I see differing degrees of coat and fur thickness among puppies of the same litter. Not a drastic difference, but noticeably. Thought I'd let you guys know, I have one chocolate female and three white males left(kinda weird, people are normally all over the whites, cause they are uncommon) I'll make a "forum sale" and give a forum member a white puppy for $500 (thanks Anthony, glad Callie is doing well!)

I am trying to talk my wife into one of the white's. But we also have a 13 1/2 year old doberman (he was my college room mate) and he pouted for a month when we brought Luna the Lab home 8 yrs ago. I fear that it might break his heart.
and yes, our chocolate is an "english shortie". i think she is as wide now is she is tall.

Really no difference between an English and American lab. However, there's a Show breed and a Field breed. Show breed is short and stocky, has a shorter snout and more rounded head, and has a thicker coat. Field dog is tall and skinny, long limbs, longer snout and more oval head, and the coat is thinner, but still has a thick top coat to repel water.
Go look at pics of both types and you can see the difference. All three adult labs in the pics look more like the Field breed. |

Not trying to derail, great looking pups by the way. Our lab is 8 in July, great dog, most likely never will have another breed. The lab is such a good family/hunting dog. Anyway there is a difference in British/European labds and the American breed, mostly to do with size, some facial features, but namely the British/European breed is a little more willing to please (as if the American breed isnt.....). The Brits/European are generally a little easier to train as well. After tons of research on this we are looking here for our next dog. Enjoy....
