I bought a new boat but want to repower with a larger motor.I am trying to sell the existing motor before I buy the new one. The motor has been used 1 time to do the check out ride on the boat. It has about 1/2 an hour of run time on it- the break in still needs to be completed. The price is $5000.00. I flushed the motor after the check out ride with Salt Away treatment. It's a solid unit and will makea good power plant for someone. I don't think you can get the motor from a dealership with the extended warranty any more- the time limit has expired. It comes with a stainless prop too. Purchased a few weeks ago from Emerald Coast Marine.

Josh- Thanks for the inquiry. I ended up going with the Key West 1520 CC. It's a great boat and I liked the fit and finish/features better than Carolina Skiff (also a V hull instead of a skiff- should be better on ride and speed). I tried to look at Scout, but the dealer didn't have the 16 footer in stock. I got a trailer from Eddie English in Milton and it fits in the garage just right. The 50 hp Yammie is a solid unit, but I think I want to go bigger in caseI add weight to the rig by installing a trolling motor and extra battery. NowI just need to decide if I want 2 stroke or 4.I like the light weight and torque of the deuce, but the quietness and fuel economy of thequad sounds good too. I don't think Key West recommends the 75 hp 4 stroke for that hull, so I will probably get the 2 stroke 70, but I am open to opinions.Hereisa link to the boat...
http://keywestboats.com/boats/show/id/2 They have made some changes since the web photos were taken- it's a better looking boat now, not that it was bad back then.

good deal mike, sounds like the perfect boat for the type of fishing you do.
with a motor less than 100hp and with that size boat I'd definately go with a 2 stroke to keep the weight down. plus I don't believe you run any long distances, pretty much just from galvez to the pass and back, I doubt you would see any real significant fuel savings between a 2 and 4. I'm a big 4stroke fan and a big suzuki fan (as is evident by what I have hanging on the back of my boat). but I don't think in your application you could go wrong with the 70hp yammy 2stroke. good luck with the sale and congrats on the new boat |

Just to update everyone I have completed the second hour of the break in period on this motor. I am going to order the 70 horse 2 stroke Yamaha as soon as this motor sells.I am willing to work with the prospective buyer, as I really want to repower my boat and have it finished. I would consider a "referral" commission for someone that finds me a buyer.

Still looking fora buyer on the motor- sweet running unit. Second hour of the break in is completed with assurance from the dealer that the motor is warranteed for 5 years transferrable.

Mike, I'm sure you have thought of this, but is it not possible to trade up with the dealer of the boat since you just bought it?
If you have only used the rig one or two times, maybe they would consider allowing you to swap to another engine since they would be making a larger sale? Just a thought. Key West are great boats, I have enjoyed my 1720 alot and it has given me no problems at all. Another suggestion on the motor....the 75 Etec would be sweet on the KW(got a 90 on mine) but would cost more than that 2 stroke yam. I didn't know you could still buy 2 stroke carbed engines due to the emissions laws? |

I did not consider the E Tec 75, likely due to not thinking of it since Kenny doesn't sell them to my knowledge, and I admit I am biased towards Yamaha. The 2 strokes will soon be phased out, but you can get one for now, and I prefer the light weight, torque, etc. I don't think Kenny can handle a trade in, or he would have offered, and I don't want to take a beating, just unload the motor for a fair price. Boat runs fine witha 50,I just prefer a 70. I love the Key West hull, and appreciate the input- haven't seen you ona forum maybe since it was fish the bridge dot com?
