Default What rods are you using?

De-lurking,

I broke down and decided to buy new rods for the yak this year. I've been using All-star rods but want to try something new. Has anyone tried out these Carrot Stix rods? I was going to go buy some new rods today and just wanted to see if anyone had any good input on them. If not, what is everybody using this year? I need some good rods for the larger species and already have my Cobia setup.

thanks,

Josh

I bought a carrot stix the salty carrot rod 7' and it felt good in the store but wasnt right once the reel was put on so i returned it. I didnt like the weight feel after. Its an awesome feel in hand though. I'd go for it if it had a screw off butt to add more weight to balance the rod. I decided on the shimano teramar 7' mh and h rod west gulf edition i think and i love it. I have bought 2 so far paired with a calcutta te 200 and a penn 750ssm. The rod has a nasty backbone and great feel but so does the carrot. Both have a lifetime warrenty and if bought from bass pro both have in store no question return as long as the problem wasnt misuse...ie snapped on storage or highsticked but youd be set with either rod i just prefer the feel of the shimano teramar vs carrot stix

American Rodsmith makes an inshore rod for Kayak fishing. It is a light-weight high quality rod that has a short rod butt. Not near as pricey as the carrot sticks, so it might be a better alternative for you. I just got one and plan to try it out in a few weeks when my winter fishing hybernation come to an end.
