what is a good area to put in and get near p-cola pass? i want to see if i can get a bull red to drag my new (to me) yak around for 15-20min or so. i know i could put in at galvez or big lagoon park, but that's a mighty long paddle on a cold morning. thanks guys

i heard sherman cove is a good launch but you have to be military
i live right by the zoo and ill start going out into the icw barge channel trolling stretch 12s and 20's and last yr i caught over a dozen in november from 38-44inches...so it mught be a little early but you could try that at oriole beach or woodlawn |

As stated NAS would be the shortest route.
Be careful going around the pass in a yak. When the current starts ripping, the wind kicks up, and/or there is a lot of boat traffic it can be a dangerous place for a small boat (much less a yak). |

James- There are no good places closeto P'cola Pass to put in your yak. Before the park at Fort Pickens was closed, it was the prime place, but it's a LONG paddle from any launch places now.I would recommend trying up at Johnson Beach Parkand fishing off the beach there. You won't have to fight the Pass currents and waves, and the big reds ARE there right now. Off Johnson Beach is where the reds school up. I will give you a call later today- I'm in school right now and we'll talk. I believe that you can go for a redfish sleigh ride right now- Good fishing- Ed Mashburn

Perdido pass in alabama is a great place if its not too far from where you live. You need to use a little caution as far as current and wind but usually this time of year the boat traffic isn't too bad.

thanks for the responses guys. i'll be staying at a buddy's place in the meadson neighborhood near the intersection of bauer road and sorrento, so i'll be close enough to hit either perdido or p-cola bay. i've only fished p-cola pass once, and hit a stiff west wind and 2-3ft chop on the way back to galvez landing. my wife was freaking out :booas it was the first time out in my boat in the bay. ed, try me again today, sorry i couldn't talk yesterday, i had to work to about 7:00:boo:boo
