I was at a silent auction benefitting an org of which my wife serves on the board.
One of the items up for bid was a fishing package containing two shimano Sahara 4000 FD reels and Penn Allegence rods and some Tshirts. I paid too much but it was the first time I caught absolutely 0 flak for supporting my addiction. The reels seem similar to my Penn 460 slammer. I plan on stringing them 20 lb braid. I may be outmatched on some big fish but not all of them. I hope to break them in off Ono on Labor Day weekend. Does anyone have experience with this reel? Thanks! |

That's the great thing about what we do. You don't need the great big reels. You are fighting the fish with the kayak. They tire out faster, and take you wherever they decide to go. A 4000 series can take on some serious fish.

I have several Saharas - 4000, 3000, 2500 and 1500 - I like them. They are smooth and reliable. You can spend more money on a reel, but with a Sahara you dont have to. I looked up the rod, not familiar with them. My only comment is that the butt looks pretty long for yak use.
