I have been reading the kayak forum for a couple weeks now and have almost talked myself into getting one of these bad boys. I have been scouting around and looking. I really like the HobieMirage Outback Fisherman shown below. Does anyone knowa basicprice of one of these puppies? Also if anyone prefers another kayak over these due to price, please chime in and let me know. I do most night fishing around dock lights in my boat and the lights I hit are definately accessible by a kayak. I think I could really get into this. Please throw me your input.

I've got two Hobies - the Mirage Sport and the Mirage Outfitter (tandem). I've had these for about 2 years now and must say that I love them. Yes, they are quite a bit pricier than a conventional 'yak - but it's worth it IMO. The Mirage Drive moves you through the water at a faster pace, your hands are free for fishing, tying lines, hoisting a cold one,etc.

I have fished inshore in the bay, bayous and flats, and taken them in the Gulf (on calmer days!) They are awesome fishing platforms, and you can add fishing extras to your heart's content.

If you can afford one, I say go for it. You won't regret it!!

I agree, I have the low end kayak (kingfisher) been useing for 4 years now. If I could afford a hobie, trust me I would get it. Dang great boat.

i have an outback and i love it hobies are amazing kayaks they are fast and stable. i have taken mine out in the bay, sound, and out in the gulf with no problems with the exception of the perdido keymack attack where we tried to punch threw 6ft surf which didnt go so well for me but everyone else made it out (in hobies)

Hobies are excellent kayaks and worth it. Ibought an OK Prowler 13 which is a great fishing kayak, but once i bought the Hobie Revolution, it is always the first yak in the truck. The Revo is a great compromise between speed, stability and maneuverabilty. The Outback is wider and more stable, but may be tough to handlewhen you have to use a paddle. Go to Key Sailing on Quietwater beach - they have all the Hobie models and will let you test them all. The prices are fairly fixed - you will see very little variability from store to store.The Hobies comes with boat, pedal drive, seat andpaddle - so it is not as expensieve as you might think...
