Default Inshore and Offshore report

<SPAN lang=EN>

I had the pleasure of taking out for 2 days John Chapman. John is on the Hobie Regional fishing Team and is there eastern Regional guy. I wanted to take him out to do some bottom fishing for some snapper on the first day since he doesn?t have the chance to do any bottom fishing in Jacksonville where he is from. On the second day I wanted to take him inshore fishing to catch some big fish on light tackle. We accomplished all of the above. We went out into the gulf on the first day with just a little bit of wind and very calm seas. It took us awhile to find the fish but then John hooks up and catches his first red snapper in a kayak 20 and haft inches. Then I catch a couple of snapper myself and John hooks up on a big snapper gets him up 25 inches! He ended up catching four snappers for the day before the seas turned bad and we had to head in. On day two I took him into the bay and we wasn?t out there to long before I saw some fish busting the surface and I called John over so he could throw on them and right off the bat he gets nailed and fights this fish for awhile on light tackle and says its going to be dark before I get him in, when he lands the fish it?s a 34 inch bull red! I caught a 30 inch red in the same school then things just went dead inshore after that. So we headed back out into the gulf. The gulf turned nasty pretty quickly but I landed a 24 inch red snapper and we decided to call it a day. John it was a ton of fun man and you are welcome to come back to my place anytime to do it all over again!

I don?t know how many times Chappy yelled out this fish is going to break my pole, this fish is going to break my pole? It was priceless

I went out for a short time today and caught this nice 24 inch grouper.

Pretty Work Brandon! You and Chappy did great...way to put him on the fish. I know how much pressure there is when you take people out. Turning out to be quite the competition between Revolution and Neptune! Kayak fishing is getting better and better! Get out there!

Brandon was an awesome host and guide for the trip over in some very, very clear water and unfamiliar territory. We had a great time on the water and he had his system of loading unloading and getting on the fish down to a fine science. Only those of us who yak fish (probably way too much) understand that when the host says I got it,to stand back and watch. He looked like a Swiss watch maker going at loading and unloading and had it down to a science. The detail oriented task that go with off shore rigging and fishing are foreign to me. I back up to a muddy spot off the road over in Jax and I'm gone in a matter of seconds. If I had to drag my yak with or without wheels through 200 yards of the most awesome white powdery sand in the state to go fishing I might not go as much. He had us on the fish in no time!! I was aggravating to a fault I'm sure, he wanted to stop navigating for seconds to rerig and I was up front goating him on to get me on spot first!!!! LOL. It is addicting and an awesome fishery!!

Yes what you said Tex, the pressure is definetly hotter than the steam you put a lobster in to put people you don't know and have never met before on fish but he handled it seamlessly. The first fish was within minutes of getting on the first spot(Brandon we'll talk about that picture, I can't believe you put that pic online, LOL) then a few minutes later I redeemed myself with a respectable snapper!! Oh yeh the part he left out was that I think the total fish count. Me=7 Brandon=4 and yeh since he put a pic of that one up I get to count it. LOL!!!!!

One more thing I was very very hesitant to go out in a tandem kayak but that Hobie Outfitter was impressive. Like Brandon said the weather got up and it got pretty darn rough the first day but it handled it like a champ!! Had a great time and can't wait to get back over that way!! Looking forward to it!! Tex we'll have to get your guys from over there together with Brandon, Kreg, and I and hit that off the hook all you can eat sushi place Brandon took me too!!!

Awesome time and enjoyed every minute of it!!!

Chappy,

Glad you had a blast! They kept the offshore species at more points for Kayak Wars for a reason. It is a lot more work! They definitely helped move you into 3rd place behind Brandon and Tex. (BTW, good job at killing the Black Drum today.) Brandon was the good host-he let you catch the mostfish. :letsdrink (But Brandon, shouldn't you have left the 24-inch grouper that is the biggest one for Kayak Wars so far for Chappy???)

Yea it would have been fun to see Chappy catch that grouper. His pole went in the water when that 25'' snapper hit. Those saltwater perch fight harder then he thought. We had a great time.
