Default How best to begin

Hello all, I'm interested in getting started with either kayak or canoe fishing in saltwater. I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions on some books or DVDs to get me started. I've found the following. I'd rather have "hands-on" experience but until that happens I'm open to any and all comments and suggestions on how to get started. Thank you.

Check out Pensacola Kayak and Sail. That's where I got to demo the yak I ended up buying. They've got a bunch of different yaks and canoes in stock so you can see and demo different ones and see which feels best for you.

Tell them the boys on team Bloody Waters sent you.

I'd deff say get a sit on top kayak. If you are having a hard time deciding use the search button and you will find a ton of info just in this kayak section...then go do a demo of the top few you're intersted in. I don't believe there is one kayak that suits everyone, you also need to take into consideration what type of fishing you will primarily be doing and that can help you with your decision as well. Good luck and can't wait to see those yak fishing reports!~L

Try before you buy is the rule of thumb. If you have the budget for a Hobie, there are definite advantages, and Key Sailing would be the place try one out. Ocean Kayakand Wilderness Systems seem to be the other 2 most popular brands in our area.
