Finally got a chance to go offshore, 1.62 miles on the iphone gps nav, miracle we found anything to fish on. Started at 0 dark 30 and the Kings were slowing our progress out, limited by 45 feet. Had one that took 200 yards of 20 in about 45 seconds, I've caught some big kings, but that one scart me. I'm now a believer in the don't use 40lb sevenstrand, that's all they had at the sto and she smoked it right above the first hook. Put the king rods up and voyage our spot, nothing on the depthfinder but my buddy nails two barely short grouper on the first two drops with a leadhead squid. I butterfly jig with no results. Switch to dead cigs on a knocker rig and get hooked up, sleigh ride and I have no idea what I got. I see red down below and get excited, it comes too the top and I pee about 2 drops as I land my first red snapper.
![]() We continue drifttng dead cigs and I get a nice lane snapper bout 4lbs. Drift again and I get another red snapper a little bigger than the first. Meanwhile my buddy is keeping the remoras busy, including a 3 footer that stuck to the bottom of the kayak. I almost tumped whatching him try to poke it loose with the paddle. Then he gets a shark, then another about 5 feet that manages to get tangled in his drift sock. Again I almost tump laughing at that cluster f*ck. Got some good underwater video of it though. Drop down a cig and get nailed on the way down, 30 inch Cobe, thing kicked my ass and completly soaked me trying to land it. Keep dropping and get two grouper, short..barley. Bounce some squid tenticales and get a trigger, which proceeds to bite a chunk out of my index finger. At this point my buddy realizes his kayak is filling up with water so we start heading back. I transfer the cooler off the back of his yak into my lap and manage to loose 3 of the kings as it turns upside down. Thank god I had all my snaps in the the fish bag on my yak. Paddling back with a cooler in front of me was excellent fun :boo. Here is my haul when we finally get back to shore. ![]() |

There was structure, rocks or something. Barely...barley discernible on the depth-finder. We put in by crabs on P'cola beach, I almost got laid walking the fish to the truck. Due south and a little bit east, distance as stated above, it's a pretty big area if you pay attention to the depth finder. HIT IT! I'm almost done with flight school so I'll be gone and don't care.
