Default Friday 7/3 east of Portifino?

I'll be there around 5:30-6am. Anyone's welcome to join me. If you see me out there in a blue yak paddle by and say hi. If I'm not in a blue yak then it won't be me you're talking to... Anyway I'll post a report sometime tomorrow.

Default RE: Friday 7/3 east of Portifino?

The fishing was "swell" today.(lame pun intended) Well the morning looked great except the waves were crashing more than I'd seen them in a long time. After building up the courage I launched and promptly became a submarine as one wave after another flooded my yak. I finally made it out without flipping or losing any gear. Than I was met by big(to me) swells and random breakers mixed in. Opened my bag of frozen bait only to find out it was going bad. Put a line out and snagged a decent sized spanish of about 20 inches or so. Nothing else of interest except for the large schools of hardtails(?) that were pretty common.

Question: All the schools of baitfish that are out there right now. Is there any best way to fish them? I've thrown ballyhoo, hardtail, spanish sardines, yo-zuris, rattletraps, and jigs into them with no takers except a flipper. Any ideas?

Thanks

If youre trying to catch the bait use a sabiki rig. Otherwise, just because there is bait doesn't always mean fish. I have had a few mornings where I have seen tons of bait but didnt catch a single king/spanish.
