First trip into the gulf in my yak..... need help!

This weekend I will take my first ever trip into the gulf with a buddy of mine. I have the gear but as for bait and how to present it I am at a loss. I know some people troll popsicles or live cigs and some sight fish for cobes but I'm not sure what works best...

I would love to catch a king or cobia but need advice on exactly what to do once i get there!

P.S.

The advice you guys gave me for the flats was great! It led to 13 specks in 2 hours last weekend! Thanks guys!

get a stinger rig (j hook then 3-4inches and a treble) and put a cig, hardtail, threadfin...etc and just troll them at a normal paddling speed. you could also put a duster ontop of the stinger rig.
