I like fish for the table so I keep one or two occasionally. There isn't enough room for any commercially made cooler so I made my own that fits. As usual for mu gizmos, it serves several purposes.
It is mde of 1/2" corrugated plastic sign board from a reaestate sign that blew away in a storm. It layed on the side of CR 495 for about 3 months before I picked it up with the idea of making a sun top. Dimensions of the fish box are 8X8X34. I cut half through the sign board length wise, following the corougations in three places. By bending it with the nucut side inside, I formed a 4 sided square tube with only one side to be sealed. I sealed the cut side with 5200 compound after taping the "tube" together. I cut end pieces and sealed them with 5200 and more duct tape. I wrapped the entire box with aluminum foil then completely covered the box with duct tape. About 1/3 of the top is hinged so I can put fish and ice in. My wife is making a nylon cover that will cover the outside to make it more presentable. Weight is about 7 pounds. It will hold a barely legal Cobia, top of the slot Redfish or Snook plus lots of trout. I put about 5# of ice from our ice maker in it one evening, went fishing the next morning, added a limit of Mangrove Snapper and still had ice when I got home. I also had one frozen 1-litter bottle plus several very cold soft drinks when I left home. Since the photo, I've added a compass to the top and a couple of tiedowns for rods or whatever. The box in bungeed in place with 2 bungees for traveling and one while I am fishing.

When you are as poor as a pig's turd, you have to get inventive or do without.

Thats a pretty damn good idea right there. How much duct tape did you use on that thing?

About half a roll of duct tape.
BTW, I can stand on the cooler without damaging it. |
