Default 07/04/09 Report

We hit the water at Navarre Pier about 0630. Headed out caught a few bait fish, and started trolling. Right off the bat I got a good hit, and nothing. Then after putting some frsh bait on and a few more minutes of trolling and ziiiiiiiing, FISH ON! Now I know thats a little much of a "Fish On" but, this is my first King from a yak, so I am pretty pumped. I get him in the yak and my buddie Jeremie comes over and takes a couple pics, soon to be posted. So I put on anothe rbait and we notice that the flippers have showed for the party. I attempt to bring in my bait when....ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING! damn, to little to late, and in a heartbeats time, slack in the line, I real in to find one of my hooks is missing, damn that sucks, sorry flipper. Met a fellow yakker out there by the name of Donnie also a PFF'er. He says TARPON, I didnt make it back in time to see, but I guess they werent interested. I start heading out further to get away from flippers, put my bait out and then say...hmmm tiime to go home...on my way back in my real starts singing and I see an airborne king, I fight him for about 3-4 minutes hes next to the yak and SPIT! He was a biggun to. Oh well lets land the yak and get home for a much needed nap before the evenings activities. A great first king trip in my opinion. And Donnie, thanks for the lighter, sorry I forgot to paddle back over and give it back, I forgot I had it from my mind in a daze from that last king.

Nice report. It definitely gets the heart pumping when your reel starts screaming. Somebody needs to market an alarm clock that makes that sound.

what a great first report in the new yak! I was hoping you'd catch one right of the bat. I think we're all ready for a poon, some hookups but none yakside for a pic yet. Ernie & I are gonna head out in the morning and do a drift.
