I talked to a guy today who is offering a spot in his club for $425. Only 3 members, each member can have 2 stands to hunt at a time. There are 3 properties about 50 acres each (surrounded by several unhunted acres.) all in the Thomasville, Al area. No size limits, no camphouse. 1 guy is from Baton Rouge, 1 guy from Mobile. Stands are set up, some food plots, deer and turkey rights. Thoughts?

Only way to find out is to drive up there and do some scouting. I would ask for some pictures from last season, too.
The rate is good if they have game on their property. |

150 acres for three guys wont work more than one season at best... the key is the surrounding acreage. Check it out on google earth - you should be able to tell if the surrounding area has enough woods/agriculture in place to support a deer herd. You can also see what kind of food plots are nearby to get an idea of the pressure. Might just turn out to be a little "Garden of Eden"

It doesn't sound bad "IF", none of the other members are the type that stop working during deer season and hunt constantly. Nothing worse than driving to your hunting area and finding out guys live on the property when you are not there.

So many factors to consider:
- How far is the drive? Could you pay more for something closer that you would hunt more often? Consider gas, wear/tear on vehicle, out of state license, lodging if you stay overnight, etc... - Are the plots maintained, or just some open areas that need tons of lime (literally) and fertilizer? Anybody got a tractor to till the land? - What is the deer density? If it's low, 150 acres could hold as little as a couple of does and one buck. You can walk 150 ac in a couple of hours depending on the terrain, so that is what I would do to get a feel for the population. |
