I've heard of people shooting a doe that has a fawn, and the fawn following them as they drag momma all the way to the truck... I couldn't shoot one.

Hunted all my life and its way more about getting outdoors than it is about killing. No way would I kill a doe with a fawn.

we have a doe on one of our plots with a very small fawn.we called the plot off limits and made it a sanctuary. What sucks is the plot is almost 2 acres big.Sometimes she shows up and she doesnt have the fawn with her.we figured she was putting it away in some bushes.Would hate for her to be accidentally killed.

I am all about killing does, but not with spotted fawns. When the spots are gone they are old enough to make it on their own, and momma is fair game. I will generally shoot one without the fawns though. At our place the spotted ones usually make it out to the plot first without mom. If not, you can usually tell if the doe is drawn down a little she is probably nursing. If she is fat and sassy, time for hamburger. Just my .02.

Good on you man. I like to hear stories like yours. I love to hunt and fish but you got to respect what god has given us also!

If you don't shoot does, do not bitch about not seeing bucks when it's time for the rut.

Proper doe to buck ratio, 2-to-1 or 3-to-1, will help you find antlers when the time comes by making the bucks move more to get what they want: the does.

That said, whacking every and any doe doesn't make sense. One with a spotted fawn will not yield as much meat - drawn down from nursing - and you'll most likely kill two by feeding the fawn to the coyotes as was mentioned before.

A doe with a yearling is fair game as most deer out of spots will survive just fine.

Manage your herd and you'll be better off as hunters and the deer will be better off as well.
