I'll just say the season has lots of potential at this point. I got a late start on scouting this year, but managed to hunt both Mon and Tues (this week). I heard 4 separate gobblers both days on the southern half of lease alone...I haven't even stepped foot on the northern half yet. Those 4 birds were hammerin off like crazy on Tues. I just got to get them away from all those hens we have. Tomorrow (Sat) or Sunmight be judgement day for one of those 4 birds...we'll see.

Good Luck all!

it'll happen may have to give them a little time to get some of those hens bred. Boy but when they do you should be in for a fine April!

I have deer hunted for a few years now, and after the slow season we had this year me and my hunting buddy desided that we would give turkey hunting a try. Well let me tell you fella's what happened this morning. Got to the huntin woods around 6 this m orning and began walking around trying different types of calls. It was our first time actually useing the calls so we were pretty much wingin it. we walked around for about an hour when all the sudden we heard a gobble in the distance. At this point I was happy to get that far. We jumped off the dirt road and set the decoys up.I started useing a slate call and got him to come about 300 feet from us and he disappeared. I was still giddy about how much that had happened in my short turkey hunting life. At the same time I was pissed that he had disapeared. After about 10 minutes of periodically calling, we heard him again. This time he was about 80 feet away from us. I was looking back and forth between a couple of pines we were behind and saw the most beautiful turkey i have ever seen in my life. He was all blowed up, showing everyone how much of a stud he was. He countinued straight toward the decoys, never seeing us off the edge of road untill he was about 20 feet from us. I dropped the call, grabbed the shotgun and in one split second it was all over. It was one of the best times i have ever had in the woods. I am 100% addicted to hunting turkeys now. The bird weighed about 20lbs and had a 10 1/4 in beard and 11/16 long spures. Awesome!!!!

That is an incredible story...and luck I think! Has anyone looked around Blackwater Forest?

Thanks,

bumped1 this morning a little after daylight. i was trying to close the gap and he was coming down a grassy road. i almost stepped on him in a curve. he flew one way and i flew the other. while i was glassing a flock of hens/jakes in a field. another hunter pulled up. he had one that had a 12in beard. i held the tape for him. it was the thickest paint brush i have ever seen. it only had 7/8 spurs but he was a man............tony
