Default S & W Sigma 9 MM or .40 Pistol

Academy has an ad in today's paper for S & W Sigma 9 MM or .40 S & W Handgun for $299.99. Looks like a good deal....but not sure which one to get. What's the differences in the 9 MM & the .40 cal and which one would you recommend....? Will be for home protection / occasional target practice.

I have a .40 Sigma and I am pleased with the gun. It doesn't have the finish of a glock, but it is a good buy for the price. I bought mine about 10 years ago for $275, so your price sounds good.

Definitely the .40 for the knock down power over the 9mm - which is exactly why most LEO's have changed from the 9mm to the .40...good luck w/ your purchase! :usaflag

Personally I like 9mm, mostly because less recoil, the ammo is more readily available and it's quite a bit cheaper.

Don't know if it's still going on (check S&W's website) but there was a $50 rebate on the Sigma. That would make it a great deal.

Has anyone tried out one of those taurus public defenders with the 410 shells?

I checked S & W's website and indeed......they have a $50 rebate good until 4/30....looks like that was just the deciding factor. I'm going to try to make it to Academy and pay for it and hopefully be back in time for the SuperBowl game - GO SAINTS !!!

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I have a Sigma 9mm and I love it for the price. It cant compare to the HK USP .40 LEM that I shoot but for the money it is a fine gun. My dad is an "at home gun smith" and he changed out a few of the springs and made the trigger pull alot less stiff and he put night sights on it as well. The feed ramp also has a few mods but i have never had it fail unless I was shooting crappy reloaded gun show ammo. But overall its a fun and inexpensive.

A Sigma is not in the same class as a BHP, Sig, H&K, Colt or even a Glock but for $250 ????? That's a great deal and I would be all over it if I didn't already own a few others.
