Default Can't kill em at the house!

It is tough hunting in this weather , but you never know!

With family and my job, I get 1 maybe 2 chances a week to hunt this great piece of property up in Holmes county. Lately, It's seems to be either hot or windy every time I go, and With temps in the upper 60s i just about rolled over and slept in. I decided to go anyway and had an awesome morning!

Wanted to try out a new piece of the property so I strapped on the climber ,my drag rag and took off through the fog. Kept on going past the spot I had originally planned on climbing and came to a dim trail where I found a huge pine bordering a cypress swamp overlooking a pine flat with an old road running through it. Jacked up ,soaked with sweat, Mosquitos tearing me up. Started breaking day and something just felt right, just knew I was in a jam up spot despite the weather.

About 6:45 I see a deer flash across the road and behind it a decent rack at about 250 yards, scoped out a good buck and I let the 06 bark, peeeeeeyoooowww! He trotted up the road, shot again, still walkin away, now about 280 ,turned behind some pines and shot once more! He disappeared and knew I had to hit him, at the same time realized I had 1 shell left. 2 minutes later See a doe jump the road and right behind her an identical racked buck stopped in the exact same window at 250 , peeeeyooooow! , mule kick! Much better feeling about this one!

We got down and couldn't find a drop, I went to where the first one was when I last shot behind the pines and nada. My buddy went in the direction of number 2 and walked right up on him in a cypress head! Not a monster, but a good one for me! I was pumped! We looked for well over an hour and a half for any trace of the first buck and I came to conclude that it was the same deer, he just ran that doe back out to the same spot where I first shot. We are going to go back and check for buzzards in a day or two just in case.

Lessons learned: You never know, unless you go!

250 yds is a tough shot!

Rut action is awesome!
