would like to hear opinions of wether or not you can tell the size of a deer by the size and depth of the track relative to the ground it is in. found this in blackwater yesterday. Looks like an 11 point to me.

You can maybe tell a little something about it's weight, but I do know the size of the print has nothing to do with the size of the deer. I've seen a spike killed that had HUGE feet. Seen a few big-footed does too. It's best if there are other tracks around to compare to, but you're still just comparing weight. Buck vs doe tracks are a little different, but I don't remember exactly what to look for.

If it were a DOG PRINT IT WOULD BE HUGE,,,...

Can tell better by examining the scat, Large healthy deer have larger feces that said probably large 150-175 lb white tail Doe,

Bucks have more of splayed toe - like what you have in the pic - while does are more closed toed.

Sandy soil like we have can be very deceiving as far judging size (weight) of a deer though as it is easier to displace. Clay, mud or good fresh dirt is always better.

Probably was an 11 point, but I heard it was already shot. I also heard it was a monster.
