AJ's first buck

i caught a bunch of flack for having bryce's first deer on here and not aj's first buck. i was not a member when he killed it last season jan 2 2008. it was the coldest day last year. i think it was 19 deg. with 15-20 mph north wind. we were sitting on the corner of a field. we had not seen anything so i was saying a little prayer. aj started bumping my arm and i looked over at him and he was telling me there was a deer stepping out in the field. it was a doe and he had told me a little earlier he was cold and ready to go, so i new we better go ahead and try to get her since we had 1 more doe tag to fill. i told him to shoot her if he could get on her good, but there were 2 trees in between us and the deer. he could not get on her so he handed me his rifle and we snuck up to within 45 yrds. of her. i gave him his gun and when he was propping up against the tree she spooked and ran in the woods. we talked about it for a few minutes and decided to walk out in the edge of the field and sit behind some sage brush. after about 6-8 min. an 8 pt. came trotting out in the field about 80 yrds away. i knew that was the one until another buck came out right after him. i looked him over and even though he was heavier and wider he was only a 6 pt and the rule is 8 or better. he got on the 8 pt and told me he was ready so when he stopped he let him have it. this story is long enough so i want tell how the next 8 hrs went but he shot at 1645 and we got back home at 0115.the camp is only 45 min. from the house. anyway aj was a trooper and was there the whole way and i was very proud of him. great first buck.
