Olympus 770. Shock proof to 6' drop and u/w to 33'. Been snorkle rain etc and everything I need in a SMALL compact 7MP picture/3MP Video.
Hard to break and in/out off the surf/sand/water/trail in a shirt or pants pocket. Try stuffing a SLR in your front pocket... http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...p?id=1287&fl=4 Look up my posts - all photos taken with it. :mmmbeer Stressless |

I just got an Olympus (the green one) that is shock proof and waterproof (to 30ft) w/o a housing....but I have not checked to see if an after market housing is available yet. Its 350 at best buy and if you look at
to see the pictures it can take. It is 10 megapixel and has some pretty cool panoramic and zooming features. |

I like those pics OCEANMAN!!!!!
How in the world did you get the ones at the surface of the water with the sharks? Just hold you camera underwater or did you use a pole of some sort to push it under the surface??? I really like the shark ones!!!!!!! |

I just hold my camera underwater. The Sharks are pretty tired by the time you get them to the boat so it pretty easy but it is a bit of a thrill. The Barracuda picwas a different story and the only time I've been scared doing it. There was 4 or 5 big Cuda's all fighting over that Mingo.

When I started looking it got a little confusing real fast. I tried a sea and sea with poor results. I finally bought a Fuji FinePix F700. The main reason was I could also buy the housing from Fuji also. It works great for me. I have had it to 130' and been using it for 4 years now. If you put a 1 GB card in it you can video for up to 35 minutes. I have shot some great video in the Keys with it.

I just got that new Olympus 1030 SW underwater camera. It is good to 30ft (10m) w/o a housing and I do believe that you can buy an underwater housing good to 130' for about 250 (best price).
I really like the camera and love that fact that it is waterproof(ish) w/o a hosing, can be dropped from 6 1/2 feet and can withstand a crushing force of 220lbs. It is a 10.5 megapixel and very customizable with and LED light for pictures at like 2cm....leads to some pretty neat wildlife shots bugs, and small fish like damsels. I would highly recomend it I take it in the woods all the time when we hunt and it has survived drops while on a horse and takes a good shot from a moving object (car, boat) when you have the wobble proof option selected. Best Buy has it at about 350 dollars. good luck |

Just remember, the resolution trumps the megapixels. If you are looking at quality, the higher the resolution, the more satisfied you will be with your photos.
I shoot a D70 for a living and am a newbie diver. I will probably go with a point and shoot under the water because no matter who you are, flooding a $300+ camera will make your stomach turn. And unlike the old 35mm basics, you can't fix em. |
