If you have a recommendation, let it be known. It would also be helpful to include why and where one could obtain it.
Thanks :toast |

Nikon D40.
Why: reasonable price for a high-end camera by most standards, many lens options -- glass makes a camera, not the body -- fast shutter speed and has a wide range of "dummy" settings so you can get great pictures in many settings without having to know what you're doing. Where: Target and prertty much everywhere else. Cost: $350 and up depending on the lens. |

Take a look at what section this is in. I think he is looking for something underwater. :letsdrink If that's the case, get you a decent canon point and shoot camera and also get the underwater housing to go with it. The cameras that tout themselves as underwater cameras often times leave some picture quality to be desired. Look on ebay for the underwater housings. They can get expensive and as much as the dang camera sometimes.:banghead |

Unless you are taking pictures for National Geographic, don't spend a ton of money on an underwater camera system because, at some point, the housingis going to leak and ruin whatever camera is inside. Good underwater housings are expensive, and when they do leak a couple years down the road, you can no longer get the camera inside unless you can find one used on Ebay. SeaLife makes some decent, affordable systems that take good pictures. A rule of thumb that was shared with me a while back is to take whatever depth the housing is rated for, and divide that number in half. My SeaLife DC500 is rated for 230', so I feel fairly confident it will be okay at the limits I dive.

I've been lookin at the Sealife DC600 or 800, but just can't get myself to spend the money and leave my gun on the boat on my dives....
Scubajunkie...does the 500 take good pictures out of the water too? If i get a digital camera for diving then I want to make sure it takes good above water pics too so I don't have to have 2 camera's for 2 different occasions! you got any UW pics you can post to show us what apic taken in the water AROUND here and not in crystal clear Bahama waters (like the ones on the website are..)? |
