Default snapper slaying

well, they were calling for 1 ft or less and i got a call from a dive friend that wanted to go after snapper one last time this year. so snapper was the plan and anything else was a bonus. these are 1ft or less conditions.

we had two newbies again that have never been in the water without an instructor and let me tell you, they did great. we were headed out to hit some public numbers and we hit a rig in 115 ft to just give them something to get comfortable with. all of us dove this rig separately so they could get comfortable and then to the spots. ( there were no shooter fish on the rig) off we were to the first spot and it was me and brads turn. he just wants to take my pole spear down with the paralyzer tip to get a bit more comfortable and i take the speargun. i swim down in 115 ft and a monster snapper meets me at 75 ft, bam and i am fighting her and brad continues to the bottom. i get my fish subdued and head again to the bottom and i see brad on the bottom huffing and puffing. i got closer to him and seen the snapper tail between his legs and hauled but down there to give assistance. for anyone that does not dive, a 19lb snapper with a pole spear is a defeat in itself. after on stringer, up we go. current was small on top and nothing on bottom. the bottom opened up to nice 20-25ft vis. jetlies were thick.

go to the next spot, fred and dustin go down and come up with two bigguns.

mine and brads turns again so we move and we dive and i shoot a monster lane snapper because i saw nothing else and while i am stringing it up two big sows com out of nowhere close enough for me to touch. i try and get my gun loaded and when i do my cable is wrapped in my fish clip. i thought on what to do and i figured i would sit there and act like i was messing with the lane and what do you know they swam right by me again and i shot since they were so close. STONED and i just went over there and put my hands in his gills and went up and as i was going up brad was going down ( he forgot something and had to go up) and he ha the speargun this time and needless to say he got the other one. wow, what a first day diving.

fred and dustin went down on the next spot and come up with two more studs. fred poses with both his gooderns.

these are mine and brads fish at the house.

we weighed them on berkley digital scales and the smallest one was 18-19lbs and the largest were 24-25 lbs. also dove these spots a few weeks ago and there were a ton of triggers and bigguns at that and we did not even see a trigger. never made it over 130 and never really got to the amberjack water, but that was not our plan.

Great report! I hope we have a little of your luck tomorrow.

Just watch where you're taking those newbie divers... they're going to get spoiled and think it's always that easy to find nice fish.:letsdrink
