Hey guys just wanting some advice on shooting big ajs talkin 50 + lbs ...any do's and dont's

Make sure you have plenty of gas to get your ass kicked. Get a good shot and let it circle youa bit at the end of the shock cord length and do not bring it in for a little while. This wil let it bleed out a bit if you do not stone it.

Other than that, try to keep from getting wrapped up and hold on. I have not shot one over 40 lbs or so yet. But I have got my butt handed to me by even the small 30 inchers.

Look into setting up your gun with the riding rig if you want to specifically go after the biguns. It will help in the fight of the fish by getting the gun out of your way etc...

Do- Stone it, Shoot up through the gills into the head (Fenderbender says it works), Hold on for a fun ride



Don't- Pull it towards you (swim to it), do it with low air, somewhere that the bottom is not 140+ feet deep.

Do aim for the lateral line and hope he is stunned for a minute or so! Don't be afraid to have a buddy on standby to help with getting him bagged (if you use a bag). Put him in upside down, I think it settles them down (LOL). Do be ready to sacrifice a gun or shaft, THOSE CAN BE REPLACED at MINIMAL cost. I'm just speaking from my personal (not professional) experience. Hope this helps..

1"high &amp;1" back behind the eyeball on the lateral line . if you do not stone it just leave the shaft in him to the boat. their is no use losing a good knife &amp; getting your a_s kicked.keep your eyes on him at all times their like cats they have more than 1 life if you do not stone him.

just high and back of the lateral line and hope that the shaft hits with enough ass to break the back bone. the swim to it/pull it to you thing really doesn't change much inmy opinion. i get on fish i shoot asap. the longer you let them fight the better chance they are going to pull off. if you are shooting a gun that doesn't have a lot of power i would probably shoot the fish down through the top of the head between the eyes about 2" back and hope for a stone brain shot. don't let these guys scare you, the ass kickin aint that bad unless your built like a prom queen...in that case you may want to rethink it.
