Taking a buddy of mine out next Saturday and Sunday to do some spearing assuming the weather is good. I was thinking of trying for some grouper and lobsters and assume natural bottom is better than a wreck. I have all the public numbers and was wondering if anyone knew which ones I should hit. I was thinking the timberholes. I know this area is quite large so any specific spot within the timberholes would be great. I only have a 16"7' Boston Whaler so the timberholes and the I-10 rubble is about as far as I can go. If anyone knows of anything close in that holds grouper and maybe some bugs and is willing to share that would be great as well. Not looking for anyone's priviate numbers or anything just want to let my buddy shoot something. Thanks!

The timberholes are close to 30 miles from pcola pass. That's a long haul in a 16' boat.

Dutch Banks are west of pensacola and do well for both but its hit or miss on vis to the west....lobster are on most wrecks and reefs but are mostly overlooked.. I find them most anywhere but its usually hard to due both with great success....good luck...

Dang, you are right. Got around 28 miles when I used google earth. I have been there before on other boats and didn't realize it was that far :-(. Anyone have any ideas of where we can go? Looked at Green's hole and it is within my range on a good day. I've dove Green's hole once before and got a few lobsters off it but didn't see any grouper. It also seems to be a big area with better places within the general area than others. I guess I can just cruise around the general area and wait to see something on the depth finder. I remember last time i was there I found a place where the depth went from 100' to 120' in a very short time. Maybe look for something like that and some structure? Thanks for any pointers!

Looked at the Dutch banks. Found about 5 or 6 on the MTB site. They are all well within range and pretty close in to shore. This might be good if the weather is kinda sporty. I know what you mean about looking for lobster. I love getting down in all the holes and seeking them out. I have gotten pretty good at it. I figured that since I only have 1 spear gun and a poke pole I will let my buddy shoot some and I will got lobster hunting.

If you're referring to this Satuday and Sunday, it could be a little rough out there for a 16' boat. Especially if you're going to be jumping out of it.
