Default The Alabama Boys Know how to Breed them

Well Jerry (badboy), Steve (swander), and I headed out to a oil platform yesterday around 4am. The was a first for Jerry and I. We didn't see much on the rigs but all and all it was still pretty cool. Then we headed out to some of the public spots Alabama has to offer, and I gotta say they are far superior to us when it comes to artificial reefs. They're has to be over 500 reefs that they've deployed in the past 3 years alone. :bowdown Our first spot Jerry shot a nice snapper which decided to swim through every hole on it and just made a mess with the mono and then rip off. After about 6 minutes of searching for it the dang thing swims out and I got a shaft in it. Then begin to go up fighting it along the way because I forgot my stringer. It weighing in and 28 pounds. Next spot we drop on Steve gets a monster trigger, 8 pounds. Next dive me and Steve go down and I see a monster snapper which luckily I stoned. He was 29 pounds. Then after that we limited out on snapper and got a bunch of trigger. Just want to say thanks Steve for taking us out

29 pound snapper

28 pound snapper

8 pound trigger

6.5 pound trigger

Man, I don't even know where to begin! We decided to take advantage of the promisefor good conditions and head waaaaay out. Beautiful sun rise behind us and calm seas ahead of us! Paul and I wanted to dive the Alabama rigs so we dropped on one that Steve had hit before. Tons of fish and cool dive but we were mostly sightseeing. I did manage to boat my first triple tail...nice size sowe'll see how good it eats! Soooo, we decide to try and hit some reefs over in Alabama and we were not disappointed! First, Steve and I drop and see 6-8lb triggers everywhere! A hugeARS bolts as we near the bottombut I see a nice black and pop him. Steve shoots a 8.5 lb trigger and we head up. Next spot, Paul and I bounce and as I get 15'-20' from the mark a HUGE red swims at me and starts to make his run when I fire the Riffe. I only had two bands loaded thinking that I would bag me a 9lb trigger, and two bands on a 28lb red doesn't stone him! :dohEntry thruthe eye and exit via just below the gill plate and he is PISSED! He proceeds to thread my line thru every hole in the reef!:banghead He thrashes so much viz goes to ZERO and of course my shaft rips out! I keep getting a glimpse of him in there but can't get a shot off! I give Paul the, "I ain't comin' up without MY fish!" look and he agrees. The 'UH-OH-BEEP-BEEP' of the computers is screaming at us and finally I run him out the side and Paul shafts him! I put him on my stringer, clipped it to Paul, and we gotta go NOW! Well, I had clipped the fish to Paul to say, "thanks your help" but a 28lb snapper is very buoyant and is dragging Paul up! We get everything under control and back on the boat with the fish. Thanks, Paul! He never left me even though he was getting REAL low on air, with this being the second dive on the tank!Paul reminds me that he 'assisted' me with my personal best ARS as he and Steve drop on the next spot while I man the boat. Shortly after they find the mark,I see Paul's yellow lift bag shoot to the surface with something BIG on it! I motor over and retrieve the bag only to find an even biggerred snapper onPaul's stringer that is clipped to his bag! This one was 29 lbs! Although admittedly I was impressed, I couldn't help but mutter to myself, "They'll be no living with him after this". Every dive was more of the same, with huge trigger and huge snapper everywhere! We even pulled in a cobia that was 32" so he went back. :reallycrying Every ARS we brought up onH&L was sent back as well, since we limited out on big 'uns we had shot. Oh, and I redeemed myself on the last 'dive' of the day by helping Paul recover his own trophy of sorts! oke The seas were slick as glass and the sun shone down on us beautifully, both literally and figuretivly! This was the absolute best day of diving I have ever experienced! Thanks to Steve for getting us out for another great trip, this one will be hard to top but we cantry! Wonder what the grouper are like out there during the winter?!:letsdrink

:usaflag I'll say thanks for pointing us in that direction! I had the time of my life with those two characters!! Not sure what was the best part of the trip but seeing Paul shoot that huge ARS and all it did was quiver was pretty cool :clap!! It was a near perfect day out there. Looking forward to doing it again. Thanks again guys! Really appreciate what you guys have done for me (chevron)! Know what I mean? Steve :usaflag

Sounds like one heck of a trip. Haven't gotten out to AL waters yet this year, but that sounds about like what I remember - tons of big fish everywhere. Nice monsters you brought up from the deep.
