Default Recent Observations

I haven't had much luck recently. I did surprisingly catchthree small bass from shore (waders)at the mouth of Bayou Fundy on Sunday (1/3)afternoon, the tide was very low and risingbut they hit my 4" Rapalal retrieved slowly! I was surprised to see large mullet JUMPING further up in the bayou.

I took my small boat to Destin 12/28 but the wind was too strong for me to get set safely under the bridge, I did watch as otherbigger boatspulled in some big redfish (over the slot). I trolled around for awhile but didn't get any hits, my lures kept picking up trash and the dredging equipment limited my ability to get close to the jetty. On my way home I stopped and launched at East River on 87 and headed upstream, I was marking lots of fish on the depthfinder in the deep holes (25') on the river bends, water temp was 51 degrees. I hung up a few jigs trying to see if I could figure out what they were . . . no luck!

Launched at Bagdad on 12/29 and noticed lots of dead 10" mullet floating over a widespread area in the Blackwater River, water temp was 49 degrees, they didn't look fresh enough for me to scoop up, I'll try again earlier in the morning after the hard freeze. Tried jigging the deep side of the river, had one good hit but lost it. Soon it began to sprinkle so I had to leave after only an hour.

The Yellow River is STILL up and muddy, but, is is receding, it is still 2 feet above normal. Elsewhere the winter tides and the strong north wind are creating blowout conditions. My usual launch on Mae Lane on Ward Basin looks like this . .

Thanks for the report....I drove over to end of Ward Basin Saturday and the riverlevel looked good at that location but the water flow was still strong. Glad you were able to land a couple.

BentStraight,

I fish the East River often and know the deep holes you are talking about and the beeps on your sonar. I've sent all kinds of bait down in those holes--nothing. I've asked countless people of there opinion and I've heard everything from schools of Bass (no way), to schools of Specks (no way), to schools ofBream, andschools of Striper. I haveno idea what they are but there are schools of them. Let me know if you findout. Looks like you had a ruff week...
