Default Escambia River Bass Trip on 13 Dec 09.

I knew the water was high, but damn. Put in at Smith's. Water temps around 53 and flowing faster than the northern part of Blackwater. Fished the thermal from the get go and got a good bite on my 3rd cast, lost it. No more bites in the next hour, moved up north. Went to Beck's lake and wow, was it flooded. The water was yoo-hoo colored, turned around. Fished Horseshoe Lake and got a crappie bite, lost it coming into the boat. Went south again and fished Governor's Bayou. Lost a REALLY good bass about halfway down the second cove. That would be the last bite of the day. Fished the thermal intake and power plant area before we left and had no bites. Results were 8 hrs fished, 3 bites, 0 fish, but at least the weather was nice. The rain really needs to hold off for a couple of weeks before the river will produce a good day of fishing. I'm just happy I got to go out. Although, this is my third straight trip out that wasn't productive, so I'm beginning to question my cold water tactics.

Thanx for the report, I thought about going around Jims, but figured it would be bad, and changed my mind.

Went out today just to put the boat in the water and enjoy the weather. Left smiths around 11, water was flowing out big time. Pulled up to that sand island in the middle and my boat was turning sideways with the outflowing current. Didnt even bring a rod, just enjoyed the wind rushing by, the cool weather, the sun and some time on the water.
