Default Back To Blackwater River Again

I went back out again (Wednesday) and caught 4 undersize sheephead (10"-11") at the the I-10 bridge, they were stealing me blind on fresh dead shrimp, so I gave up on that andthen trolled up and down the river between the Bagdad ramp and the railroad bridge. I was just about to give up at 3:30 when my new Humminbird indicated I had just passed over a school of large fish. Oh, boy I thought I had finally found a school of stripers near the bottom in 32 feet of water, a few seconds later my 4" Storm Swimming Shad got slammed! But, when I got him up it was a 19" redfish! I went back upstream and drifted through them again with the same result, an 18" redfish, I lost another one on a third pass and then I could not find them again.
I was surprised how deep the river is just south of the railroad bridge, I was getting readings from 45 to 50 feet deep! The Humminbird was marking small fish at the 11' range in 20 to 30 feet of water, but, whatever they were they wouldn't hit anything I offered. Five hours of fishing and one slot red in the cooler, I think I need to find some other hobbies! LOL

That's pretty cool. I've heard of deep holes in upper blackwater bay, I need to get my butt out there.

Good job, now it'll help you catch more next time,

Alex
