Default La. Offshore fishing

<DIV id=body0>Ran 2 days with Capt Troy on the Kingfish.

The first day the seas were calm flat. That is the type of day when the fish clam up. Nothing has been normal this year. We made it to the bait spot and getting bait was a little slow. With about a dozen baits we went looking for amberjack right off. Only 1 at each rig we hit but we picked away at them. Once we got our limit of amberjack Capt Troy asked me to bait up and drop for maybe a warsaw grouper. The minute I thought I was deep enough I locked in and handed the pole to the customer who bent over and the fight was on. I was sure an amberjack had followed it down and hit it. Surprise! A nice fat warsaw was staring me in the face. With 2 limits we headed out to the tuna grounds about 10 miles further out.

Once there it was action and we put another 5 blackfin and 2 yellows into the box and caught several bonito for bait. We came home with a box full.

The second day we were had a plan to go to the hottest areas from the day before because there was a front coming through and our day would be limited. We fought a rough head sea all the way out and had to go very slow. I was thankfull to be inside that cabin of the Twin Vee. An open boat was not comfortable.

The fight.

The fish.

We made bait and fought our way out to the hottest AJ rig from the day before. We had no trouble getting the reef donkeys.

We tried to drop for Warsaw grouper but only came up with 3 red snapper in the 20 plus range that were carefully vented and returnes to the deep and one very nice gag grouper that also went back in great condition. The seas were building as predidted so having our limit of AJ's and not wanting to waste any more time for the warsaw we started for the tuna grounds. The reports from there were not good but some were getting a blackfin or 2.

Once there we made a good attempt and only got King Mackrel to show for our efforts. We also lost a lot of hooks to them. Everybody out there realised the bite of yesterday had shut down and started to head to the barn. No body made plans to make a salvation stop as the front was coming upon us sooner than expected. We had the most relaxing ride in due to the boat itself and the enclosed cabin. In the rough seas the customers still fell asleep.

Overall 2 days of catching.

One of the other captains, Capt. Ed hooked up to a mako while we were out there. It was very late when he got back but he had a catch to remember. This 798 pounder had to be lifted out of the boat by a forklift.

The wind is gusting to around 40 today so we are all in. Have to fish tomorrow if the wind gods will let us. Have no idea how this front will upset things as far as fishing goes.

Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that!
