Default Thursday morning on the KATHY II

Had a doctor's appointment this a.m., but an invite to join Capt. Terry on the KATHY II, along with Skip and Ed, I quickly rescheduled. Launched at Sherman about daybreak, with a beautiful moon and clear skies, and good weather outlook.

Hooked up with the bait man at the lighthouse for some live cigs to go along with our pinfish.

Slight chop through the pass and we were on our way SW. West wind and roller coaster waves made for a wet ride out (at least on my side!)

Snapper bite was quick and steady. Barricudas were having fun tearing up some of the Red Snapper before we could boat them, but they finally went on the way.

Everyone had a chance to pull in some Red Snapper and the box was filled with our limit in 70 minutes.

After the bite shut down, we moved around looking for keeper AJs, Kings, etc., to add to our Red Snapper buffet. Hit one spot that looked productive, dropped our marker and swung around to anchor and back down to the spot. This yahoo comes straight on to our marker, sits on it, and anchors! What the Hell!!!! We yell over that it's a big ocean, how about a little room, but stares of indifference. Well, they did pick up and move off in the direction of a couple of other boats on the horizon to probably mark their spot also.....just don't know how someone can just run right up on you like that. No talk that this is their favorite spot, can we share, etc. Read about this on other posts all the time and it really tends to tee you off. Here's the dudes on our marker:

Well, after checking other holes on the way in, gave up trying for any keeper Kings or AJ and headed in. Cleaning the boat while the Blues/Fat Albert flew out to the beach for practice, great end for a beautiful day on the water.

Happy Red, White, and Blue Week :usaflag

Man, that freaked me out for a sec because I drive a 19' Cape Horn with the Teal trim and I thought that was my boat when I first looked at the picture. My boat is "Knot Guilty", I don't have a radar, and I sure as hell don't roll up on other boats.

Anyway, I hate that people do that, still looks like you had fun!

This stuff of boats running up on folks is starting to scare me. My emotions run too high when it comes to acting like you have a small shred of common courtesy & ethics. I hope I react this well >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>NOT!

Sounds like a nice trip.

How far is someone supposed to stay away from your marker?

Well, the way I see it and if your desire is to get on someone's spot, at least wait untilhe can anchor onhis bouy marker before you anchor on it. Just common courtesy and common sense........me thinks! If I am heading to a spot 20 to 30 miles out and someone is sitting on it. I usually find another since the gulf is full of spots and fish, but if the spot is large and I desire to fish it, I will pull up to the other boat and identify the spot, wreck, etc. and ask if they mind if we fish with them. That way, they will know I'm not just coming up to get another spot on my GPS. If I think we aren't wanted, I would just move on. To me this is so simple, but to a lot of fishermen out there it isn't. As I see it right now, the gulf is healthier than it has ever been, with an abundance of fish. Let's all enjoy it and be courteous to our fellow fishermen. Keep the faith.........Ed

That sucks to have someone all in your face like that, we went out of mexico beach last year like 20 miles fishing a public reef ball, missed our bouy by 20 feet and had a 100 ft party boat out of indian pass pull up on our bouy and had 20 people drop to fish. I just had to leave before I blew a gasket. The ocean is no place to make enemies in my opinion. But had I paid to go on a party boat and capt. pulled up on a 24 footer on a public number I would be pissed. We were almost rubbing rod tips. That is just dangerous to me.

This question is just fundementaly wrong,,, How far is someone supposed to stay away from my marker?

The way I see it, If i drive 20 miles out into the gulf and I mark a spot and throw a marker and im fishing that marker, this person can go throw his own marker and not fish mine at all...

The Gulf is entirley to big for someone to come and fish on a bouy marker that i have thrown out.... just my .02:banghead

Oh by the way,,, great report,, nice mess of fish...

Hey! that's me in the Cape Horn next to your marking bouy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Now let's tell the whole story!!!! Especially since you have every one thinking how rude and inconsiderate I am.

This is a number that ReelFiesty gave to us on the forum.I put in the number and headed to fish it for the first time.Never been there, don't know what's there. You guys were not anchored yet and had just gotton there.Had I been 5 minutes earlier I would have been there before you.

Now I drop anchor, not trying to get on top of your bouy,Miss my mark some, and realize that I to close to your bouy.So we immediately start pulling up anchor

The picture was taken, when we pulled anchor and drifted by the bouy.

To finish the story,we pulled anchor, moved over dropped anchor again this time,at least 75' from your bouy and started fishing. You guys anchored started catching fish. While we were off the wreck not catching fish.Gave it about 20 minutes and we moved on. I came back to that spot later and know one was there.we anchored and caught our precious 4 Red Snapper.

As far as your remark, "this is a big gulf" No I didn't reply. What was I suppose to say.I don't drive 240 miles to go fish and argue with somebody. I did the right thing got away from your bouy and gave you the wreck.

Next time you take a picture of me and post tell the whole story.

You can also apologize to me for making something out of nothing.

I went back to that number Saturday took my brother and his son-in-law from Arizona, a boat was already there, anchored 50 feet from him and we caught our 4 man limit of snapper beside the other boat and was no problems.

Tony Future replies from forum members welcome!!!!!!!!!!!
