Finally got a friendly forecast and made it out yesterday, it was a little choppy getting out there but by the time I got to the rubble reefs things started to settle down. Drifting around I got a few bites but couldn't hook anything to save my life. Then once I started hooking up I realized cold hands don't really tie knots too well:banghead . Anyways one 13" trigger later I decided to try my luck somewhere else and hit up Tex Edwards. Found a nice red snapper bite there and caught and released some nice eating size fish, then found a couplebarely undersized triggers that provided some entertainment. About this time the sun came out and the seas died way down and it was gorgeous, about that time I started marking aj's and the first butterfly jig drop yielded2 undersized fish which promptly broke me offwhen they made a run for the prop. Caught about a dozen more, lost some more jigs before I had to get going to a buddy's superbowl party.
Final tally ~15 snapper,3 triggers, ~12 aj's, nothing in season or of legal size but they're still fun to catch. I probably could have doubled those numbers easily ifI would've tied some decent knots or set the hook butthat's why they call it fishing and not catching. Still a great day to be on the water! |

Sounds like you had a good time. Great report. Thanks.

I went out yesterday also and caught just about everything in the ocean that you couldn't keep. Of course snapper after snapper, several bull reds, one over 40", several undersized grouper, undersized AJ's and one keeper size but I was out too far, a bunch of trigger and a baby flounder on a bait rig. It was fun though, did catch one trigger that came in at about 20" that I'll be smoking next weekend. It was definitely a nice day after lunch time, the wind laid down and I didn't even break out the anchor. I'm ready for a time when you can actually keep something you catch, it really ridiculous right now.
