Default REEL FEISTY 4-19-08

Started out meeting at Walmart on Blue Angel at 6 am. James tried to be sooo quiet getting out of Scott's house that he forgot his beerand sandwich:banghead Oh well, that's why we met at Walmart. After loading the boat with the supplies, we head off to Sherman Cove. The crew: 1923 (John), biggamefishr (Josh), bigrigz (Ken), Kahala boy (Hama), and of course the captain James. Get to Sherman and get the REEL FEISTY in the water.

Get to the pass and it doesn't look too bad and we head out to get some live bait. First couple stops......no bait:reallycrying Figured James won't put us on fish till we get him some beer so....:letsdrink Finally start catching bait at the 3rd stop. Hama catches some ruby lips, white snapper, and ajuvie AJ onthe sabiki rig.Josh caught some rock fish/ whitesnapper.Ken caught some mingos and white snapper. John caught some white snapper and baby red snappers. With a good assortment of "candy" we head off with great anticipation.

Don't know where we went but we were about 35 miles out (captain said so). Drop lines with live bait :clap Nothing!!!!:banghead Move to new spot. Drop lines.....nothing again :reallycrying Move spot again..... Finally!!! John comes up with a nice Red Snapper:banghead Dang fed waters.... Every one else starts to catch the same red snapper I think.... (after all they are very rare)... John and I also caught a couple of flatties about 10 inches.

Getting late.... Time to get in the magical 9 mile line to try to get some blood in the fish box. John gets the 1st keeper in the boat...Red snapper 19 inches :clap (I think that same snapper followed us all the way in). Then Josh gets his snapper followed by Ken then Hama. Total, we put 5red and 1 black in the box.

Time hack----6:45 pm. Captain says time to go home.....as we make it back to the pass, boats are headed out for the night (full moon). Probably why we didn't get much...Make it back to dock by 7:30 pm.Clean the REEL FEISTY, shake hands and depart for home. Had a great time with James and I enjoyed fishing with John, Josh, and Ken. Might not have come away with a lot of fish but, Learned a few new tricks from Josh and John. Ken learned a lot (I think).

And finally......Thanks to James for a greatadventure...James can fill in about the short stop we made or he doesn't have to. Any trip on the REEL FEISTY is a great trip for me:letsdrink:letsdrink

it was a slow day, lots of snapper caught (mostly in federal waters) when we were looking for bait and grouper. I'm sure the full moon had a lot to do with the slow bite.....but regardless, it was great company and a great time. james i really appreciate the trip, its always a pleasure to be in your company. Hama, Ken, and chris....it was great meeting and fishing with ya'll.

Hama....I'm in navarre this week and the trout bite is hot off the dock, also a few reds tossed in. Shoot me a PM if you and your boy wanna come over and give it a shot.

heres where my snapper ended up...

Hama beat me at starting the thread about the trip. Here are a few pictures from the adventure! I'll edit this and add some of my narrative after I get out of school.

My thoughts:

Taking someone fishing is probably one of those good deeds that willhave a real andprofound affect onALOT ofother people, because every person who's had something nice done for them, wants to be able todo something nice forsomeone else. Eventually, one single good deedWILL turn into dozens of other good deeds!

I don't know about everyone else, butto be able to gofishing with Jameson his boat, gave me an unforgetable experience. Someday, IWILL BE"that guy!"Ilook forward to having a nice boat and taking others out fishing with no strings attached, just as James took me.

There were many neat things that I saw, or observed and learned on this trip:

#1 Ruby Red lip is not just a forum ranking, lol it is in fact a fish! and according to the crew, good bait!

#2 I was surprised that it takes 30-45 seconds for a one pound egg sinker to get your bait to the bottom! To put it in perspective, It's kinda like fishing off of the roof of a 35 story building.

#3 Seaweed, Rice and Spam makes a wonderful lunch. Spam-Muso-Bee, as Hama called it is great!!

#4 When you're holdinga 6' leader, with the hook in one hand and the 1lb weight in the other hand it is possible for the 4' line in the middle to inadvertantly snag something like oh, say a tackle box and fling it overboard.....:banghead lol oh, well could've been worse. At least it floated and we got it back quickly...

#5GPS and Fishfinders aresome amazingequipment that have a gazillion functions. (yes, it actually say's gazillion in the manual...)

#6 The term "Fishing over Live bottom" means: :doh hmmmm, I'm still not really sure what that means.... but it's cool fishing lingo and I'll have to throw that term out there soon even though I don't know what it really means, the other person will think I do.

#7 Red Snapper canNOT be endangered... That's all we were catching!!!!

#8 I was wrong to think 24' is a good size boat to have, 34' is the right answer.

#9 It is impossible to pee off the back of the boat without getting your feet wet. hmmmm

#10 It is possible to lose a fish because you pulled his lips off.

#11 Sherman Cove is an A+ facility. Almost makes me wish I had married a military chick.

#12 A PVC "Tee Fitting" looped onto your belt works great as a fighting belt.

#13 Sabiki rigs actually work.

#14 There is no such thing as "Having Too Fast of a boat"

I had fun even catching bait. The Snapper I took home tasted great, I ate it the next day! I'm also real interested in making some of that "Cebichi" stuff Josh posted about.

I had a Great Time, I am thankful to have been invited. Thank you verymuch, againto James!

-Ken

Thanks Bonita Dan, that picture with the Penn Int'l rod and looking out the back of the boat while we were running is my favorite pic I think.

FYI to all - Pics added and some of my story added too.
