Default Red fishing

I was trolling plugs for reds and caught several which we released. Also caught several spanish and kings on the same gear. I lost 4 plugs and the line was broken off at the snap swivel on the line , with the swivel and leader (80 Lb.) knot being the only thing left.CONFUSED... ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS... Thanks, Chuck

What kind of leader material? Monofilament? Flourocarbon? Braid? Wire? Stranded Wire?

Knots or Crimps?

If knots, what kind of knot did you use?

If crimps, what size crimps?

What was the brand and type of "plug" that you were using? Size? Were you using it "stock" or did you make any ring or hook upgrades?

I was using mono, Man's stretch 25, no modification, with (I think its called the dunaway knot ) where you make a loop and pass the bitter end through 5 times. There were millions of small black minnows tightly schooled together and perhaps my snap swivel looked like a black minnow , and a king or spanish hit it. Thanks for your reply. Chuck

yeah......it was likely the snap swivel. I'd get rid of those and only use a barrel swivel from your main line, to tie on the leader (25 to 30 lb. mono) and tie the plug directly to the 25 - 30 lb. mono leader using a good knot. I'm not sure what the knot is you are using. Not even sure of the name of the knot I use all the time.......but it works. I've never had a problem with what I call a fisherman's knot. This is just my opinion.
