First trip this year after Lil Kahuna's facelift.
Fished some live bottom 30-40 miles to the SW. Bite was real slow. We bumped several spots only to find white snapper, mingo, and a few red snapper. We did managed one grouper. While bumping we had a decent cobia swim up to the boat and I was able to feed him a pinfish. What made it interesting is the fact that we forgot to put all the gaffs back in the boat after the face lift. So our crew had to put their noodling experience into practice and lipped the cobia into the boat.I thought for sure we were going to lose her but Randy sure enough put the death grip on her. Left the unproductive live bottom and headed in to a spot I've had for years in state waters. We quickly loaded up on some nice red snapper. What a save. We were boarded late in the afternoon by FWC. I must say the officer was very professional and courteous. Found several demons during the shakedown which I'll have to address here shortly. ![]() My catch of the day ![]() Group pic ![]() Check out the new cushions thanks to Cindy at Island Quest and T-top modifications thanks to Tim at Breeze. ![]() New strataglass enclosure thanks to Cindy at Island Quest Keith Johnson, Lil Kahuna |

That had to be fun trying to lip a cobia of that size. I hope you wore him down first. Nice bunch of fish and a good Mangrove as well.

How far out were you when you encountered the FWC? I saw a FWC truck with about a 22' contender behind it all painted up with their logo and stripes the other day

They launch at Big Lagoon, so that's a pretty common place to see them. |
