Went again to the I-10 rubble in the 30-07, 87-25 area last week and marked no fish for the second time in as many trips. Saw one boat anchored up chumming and watched them catch 2 small red snapper in 20 minutes. In the past, fish were so plentiful there was no need to chum but if you did, the catching was non-stop. We went to several other spots within 8 or 10 miles that have always had lots of fish and marked very few. Anybody else seeing similar results?

fishing from the shore in a few areas ive noticed alot of spots that used to hold fish right off the shore regularly are thinned out alot, but at the same time a few places seem to be more populated than ever, my buddy said hes been seeing the same thing taking his boat out, some spots that used to be his little honey holes are just dead but spots that used to be not so good might be thriving, guess the fish just moved around

We caught a lot of snapper last week while jigging over bait schools in 380ft of open water. Very strange but there were plenty of them

It isn't uncommon for reefs to become pretty vacant this time of year. For the last 2 years 2 of our pyramids to the SW had been holding plenty of fish until mid August when they just fell dead. Those same dead spots started to hold fish again into the fall.
Maybe water temps force them deeper or as we experienced last week, if there are large masses of bait like squid moving through an area it may be that the snapper take advantage of the huge buffet and leave structure to feed. |

Yes, its in federal water, the boat that was fishing was flying a VOO flag, maybe they were testing fillets. Anyway, I'm just concerned. Hopefully the fish have just moved for a while and will be back.
