Default First trip of the year

This is my first post so be gentle. We finally got to go outSaturday from Fort Morgan. We had an absoutley beautiful day. We ran out about 20 miles to try and catch a few baits without much luck. There was hardly any tide no birds and no bait. Things weren't looking so good. With the seas so slick we couldn't stand it so we headed the 26 foot Glacier Bay Cat due South. Next stop was 38 miles out and we were still only in 130 foot of water. I made my first drop with my christmas present (Torium 30 on a Trevella rod). First drop bam, about a seven pound amberjack. Second drop with the butterfly jig bam, the elusive red snapper seven pounds back he went. Nextdrop Big AJ drag is screamin and guess where he goes with my$25.00 jig. Yeap you gussed in therig, no more butterfly jig. We caught jacks until we were all tired with no keepers but lots of fun. My eight year old son got to get in on the action and I believe he is hooked like me now. We decided to head on out to where the big boys live to get a little meat for the box.We ran another17 miles to the rigs in 250 feet. First drops with jigs produce hardtails in the three pound range. The rig is covered inhardtails and we know this is looking good. We catch a few baits that are the perfect amberjack candy. We circle the rig on the upcurrent side and theFurnosonar is solid red from the top to the bottom. We loose our first four fish tothe rig. We then hammered the drag down andpulled the fish away form the rig before they could dive into the rig. First fish pops up is a twenty seven pound fish. We catch three more allabout the same size and loose several more to the rig. I tried to drop down one grouper bait after we had a limit of AJ's. The bait made it down 250 feet and sat there about30 seconds before it got hammered. I don't think I ever stood a chance that was a big fish. We called it a day and had long ride in with a beautiful sun set towatch. What a great day on the water. My wife has the pictures on the camera I'll try and get her to download them tomorrow. Pictures are a few post down.

Final total 4 keeper AJ's 15 released 2 sheepshead 4 triggers6 red snapper all released

58 miles out and only in 130 feet of water? this would have put you somewhere in the vicinity of petronius, which is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY deeper than 130 feet...assuming you were not running parallel with land...

The next stop we were only at 38 miles we ran another 18 from the first spot. I believe the rig wass the VK something. I'll have to get my book to see which one it was. We fished there lastsummer withouta bite. After that we then went to the MP 252which isin the deeper water. Sorry for the confusion.
