Default AJ's, Grouper, Snapper, & RedFish 01.28.12

Got off to a late start. Stopped by Hot Spots for some bait and then headed to Shoreline to launch the boat.Plan was to go find some ajs without having to make a long trip.We dropped at a spot about 6miles out and bonita were tearing up the water but no ajs so we went out about another mile and 1st drop down with jig aj was on.Sent the jig back down and another one hits, got him to the boat only to be released.Ended up catching 3 amberjack and only caught 1 keeper. The wife didnt want anything to do with catching aj so she instead was pulling up big snapper.Told her to just try to drop down a butterflied menhaden and see what happens and when she did fish on pole bent in half.Thought it was another keeper aj but once we started seeing color it was a grouper she did good to get it off the bottom and to the surface. The suprise came when I dropped down a slab of bonita and hooked a 26'' redfish 7miles out from pass,I didnt expect that.Overall a fun day fishing and it was nice catching a variety of fish.Looking 4wd to next weekend........

Its great that your wife fishes with you. Mine does too I just Need to put her on fish more.
Nice job looks like fun . I want to learn to fish out there but haven't got the slightest clue. Do you know any sites or tips for finding fish out there. We went to 3 barges and had now luck just flipper stealing baits.
Do you usually just randomly go out there and find bottom structure or do you always have numbers?
Thank you

We usually just try to go to the big wrecks.I know I can take her to some of those and we are going to catch something.Right now we are able to just hit the public wrecks as there isnt as many boats out there but that will change in a couple months I'm sure

Makes sense is there a good place to find pretty accurate numbers for public spots? At this point I don't care about keeping anything obviously since nothing is in season .
I just want to learn what works through trial and error.
Thanks for responding

Nice haul. Can't wait to get out there & catch & release those rare endangered snappers.
