My son is heading off to the navy in a few weeks, so we took a 14 hr trip on the New Florida Girl out of Destin this past Sunday. Only had 20 people signed up, so had plenty of room fishing. Left the dock around 4:00, way too early for me
![]() ![]() Drove for a few hours, somewhere south west of Navarre. Seas started 2', but were up to 4-6' by midmorning but settled down later. We limited out on red snapper, had to start throwing backfish. Got a good variety- scamp, almaco jacks, mingos and red snapper. One guy got a huge amberjack. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First time on the New Florida Girl, really good trip, crew helpful, got plenty of fish. Used their equipment but you can bring your own. |

good thing you didn go out on that boats sister the american spirit. on that boat you run 2hrs out and fish for half hr then run 2hrs in on a 5hr trip....it sucked and all they put us on was lizardfish and rock fish...but looks like you guys had a GREAT haul.

nice catch!

what do you expect on a 5 hour trip. if you get one snapper per person thats good...we run 1 45 hours out on 4 hours to fish 30 minutes and get some snappers. thats the only chance you have out of destin. book a 8 hour and youll get your snapper limit (im talking about party boat trips), but 4 and even 6 hours are most of the times king mako trolling trips. fergie |

it didnt look like they did too bad. About 4 weeks ago I went out on the Swoop 1 out of Destin on their short trip and slaughtered the fish. Not to brag and no BS but me and seven of my buddies caught most of the vessels fish, a lot of families and kids --- all of which looked like they had a great time. We were pulling up nice mingos left and right and decent snappers 18-24". One of us snagged a good Warsaw, and a Trigger that was big enough to take up the bottom of a basket. My Buddies dad pulled up a Lane next to me and in a blur the deckhand snatched it out of the basket, hooked it on a 850ss and tossed it to a 4 foot barracuda, B brought her in and that was better then squid for bait. I'm going on the long trip in a few weeks I let y'all know.

Nice catch.. but it brings me to ask the question:
WHY do charter boats keep fish like Barracudas and Bonita? I see it all the time on the dowcks in destin, where a trip comes in, hangs the fish on the hooks for some pics, then cleans the snapper/grouper, and at the end of the day theres a trahcan full of carcasses but WHOLE bonites and cudas?! Are they kept at the customers request or does the crew keep em? I used to go to the docks to get shark bait and we saw it all the time. Any charter guys wanna shed some light? |

honestly i keep bobos and cudas on bad days- the catch looks bigger and the people are happy about cudas just like sharks. i normally cut the bobos for cut bait and keep the cudas for shark bait...
