OK I'll say it the forecast this morning was wrong, real shocker for this time of year, I know :banghead .. However, my two good friends and I proceeded to have great time on our first offshore trip of 08. We started off with hopes of heading to the rigs for some AJ and grouper but the 1-2 forecast from the night before turned into a solid 3-4 stacked from the west.. hmmm we got about 10 or so miles and decided instead of pounding at 18knots into the head sea for another 50 miles we would turn a to the east and run 27 knots 30 miles to our yellow gravel area numbers :letsparty we ended up about 49 miles south of Perdido Pass with a good mess of fish. 1 keeper AJ, 5 Scamp, 3 huger triggers, a beeliner and a 1/2 dozen or so white snapper. No shortage of Red Snapper in the gulf as they were thick at almost every spot we fished. We did catch 1 snowy grouper that was just a little 10incher. beautiful fish. The seas calmed a littler after noon a laid down to a very nice 1-2 which made for an easy cruise at 30 knots back to sportsmans. It wasn't a spectacular catching day but it was a spectacular day on the water with good friends. Cheers Scott and Mark.... :toast

Forecast wrong indeed!!! We headed out of Perdido Pass about 9ish intending to run south for AJ's and whatever else would bite but the seas were stacked against us and the ladies were shy about the ride so we eased out to the Wallace and dropped. Used an assortment of bait fish caught in Pensacola Pass yesterday and some squid to keep the ladies busy. Boated SEVERAL red snapper, sometimes 2 at a time on cut bait, and lots of junk bottom fish (Searobins, Sandperch, etc) but nothing to keep. Hit the Lillian bridge pile with the same luck and finally called it a day wind burnt but happy with the fairly steady action despite having nothing to fry tonight. =/
