My Uncle James and I headed out Friday morning the day before the Redfish Regatta. We headed to the East with the hopes of filling the cooler with Grouper and Triggers. First stop was the Timberholes. We made one drift past the spot and we jigged up one small Red Grouper and a small AJ. We decided to anchor up and break out the chum churn. I jigged up another small AJ and another one followed him up to the boat. I dropped back down and quickly hooked into another small AJ. This time there was 2 following him to the boat. My Uncle James then jigged one up as well only this time there was 25-30 that followed it to the boat. They hung around the boat for a while and would chase your jig if you thrashed it across the top of the water. I grabbed the camera and was able to get these pictures of them.
It was hard to get a bait past them but when you could there were some Triggers to be had. They eventually ran us off the spot so we moved on half mile away or so but the AJ's were still thick so we ran to the Edge to get away from them. The bite was slow at the Edge but we did manage to put a couple Almaco's, one Mingo and James added this Scamp to the box. We moved to some natural bottom in a little shallower water and I jigged up a small Lane Snapper and we added some more Triggers to the box. We stopped off at the Chevron on the way home to see if we could add a couple keeper AJ's to the box. We made 3 or 4 drifts and caught several AJ's but none of them were big enough so we made the ride back in. Final tally for the day 11 Triggers, 2 Almaco's, 1 Scamp, 1 Mingo, and 1 Lane Snapper. It wasn't the most productive day for the box but we caught fish all day, had a blast with the AJ's at the boat and we even had a couple of the endangered Red Snapper up in our chum line. I dropped James off at the dock and loaded my gear into the boat for the camp/cookout and waited for my buddy Duanye to get to the dock. Once we made it out to Mcrea we pan fried the Scamp, Mingo, and 1 Trigger with some onions and peppers for supper. :hungry |

I'd say 11 Triggers equals a great day on the water. Good job.
