Default 2/2/2017 Edge and beyond

Hit the edge area to jig up some AJs. Caught a bunch of undersized and managed one 31" Almaco. Headed to around 600' to deep drop. Spend several hours bouncing around with no luck. There were small sharks everywhere. Maybe they were dogfish, not sure. My wife hooked something good on the bottom and after a fun battle with the electric reel it turned out to be a stud bft. After wasting time out there we decided to hit the edge for some mingos. Found a nice pocket of larger ones and caught enough for a few meals and left them biting. Long day with not too much success but it was sure nice to get out there.

The sonar shot is from my 94sv/GT51. Pretty sure those were dogfish. They were everywhere even when moving a few miles down the pipeline.

Sounds like our trip we had Thursday it was a slow day for sure we hit 2 AJ holes, we could see them on the screen but no bites. We had live bait, cut bait, and vertical jigs we caught several nice snapper. I found out it was a neap tide that day so it made me feel better that we didn't do well. We also tried deep dropping went to a spot we smashed the tilefish on before no takers. Then ran to deeper water with weed lines scattered 50 miles out in 1000' of water, I caught a big 6' eel with nasty teeth and 1 tilefish . We also hit a mingo hole at the edge with a few 3lbers then called it a day.
Still a great day.

That's a big BFT. Did she catch that on the bottom in 600 Feet?

It was caught off the bottom around 600' but luckily for her she was using an electric reel. We were trying to catch grouper and other bottom critters using chunks of bonito. That tuna was hungry for the bonito steak i guess.

A 6 foot eel? gross, I'd love to see a picture of that if you had one.
