I'm trying to get my dad to say yes on going out in the boat this weekend. He keeps making excuses on saying that the water quality is going to be bad from all the rain we've gotten in this last week. If we do go out we'll probably go for flounder. It won't be an offshore fishing day.

Me and Russian are going to be out on the edge tomorrow. Going to take our first whack at some blackin. All tips welcome. We'd love to hear from fellow PFF'ers out there. We'll be on 16. My boat is the Loreliu.
Is there is a channel for general PFF chatter? |

Channel 68 is a good one to chatter on.

Cool. I monitored 68 today while Russian and I were out on the edge. The mingo's were thick and heavy...We were about 25 mi SW of Destin anchored up behind a commercial bottom fisher. Literally instant bites on the drop, we were using squid and cut bait. Incidentally, we stopped outside the pass and threw a few sabiki's but it was like pulling teeth to get a dozen or so in the well. What gives? No one was catching bait this morning and the bait boat was no where to be seen.
Other than Mingo's we had lanes, plenty of RRL, a few (short) grouper mixed in, a few beefy (out of season) amberjack and a small school of Mahi up to the boat. Didn't see signs of any tuna unfortunately, but it was nice to fill the box with some keeper snapper. Only other interesting item: I decided after hooking a mingo to bounce around a while and see if I could pick up one of the bigger grouper (that kept reefing our live bait rigs). After 10 minutes, WHAM big hookup on an AJ. Fought the sucker for a 10-15 minutes before WHAM, another monstrous thump. But the line went limp, but heavy? So reeled her up and found that a) mingo eaten by decent AJ (I figure at least 30-35 inches) and b) AJ chomped up the gills by a shark; one nice clean bite, at least 10-12" in diameter. That's dinner plate size! Crazy thing was, the AJ head was still alive when I got it in the boat. Yikes! What did you guys find today? Damn the weather was nice. I may do it again tomorrow. |
