Can anyone give me some advice on how to catch my first wahoo, whats a good starting point. I am new to this type of fishing, and I need a large fish to justify buying the larger boat to my wife. Any advice would help

If you don't want to get too complicated with rigging at first just buy a braid marauder or two to run off your corners, preferrably orange/black and blue/white. Put these two in the back corner rodholders and one back about 20 feet and the other 25-30 feet. If you have riggers put the next rods in them and get some type of islander or wahoo wacker and either run them past the marauders maybe 60 and 100 feet you do not necessarily need riggers but they help. Wahoo tend to like these lures in blk/purple blk/red and also blue/wht. The distance for any of these lures will need to be adjusted depending on your speed But start somewhere around 10 - 12 MPH. After that just find a weedline with bait on it and troll. Also if you do come up on a line and trolling isn't cutting it, but you see a lot of bait and chicken dolphin try stopping and dropping a diamond jig down 3/4 to the bottom and ripping it up as fast as you can. I like using the islander lureswith a ballyhoo. If you haven't rigged any ballyhoo up before you can get the pre-rigged. The islanders are pricey but make a difference. This is a picture from 2 weeks ago where me and my kids caught one. You can see the islander in front of my sons face on the right where it had slid down the wire. I was using a pre-rigged ballyhoo. then take unrigged ones toput on the same wire leaderwhen the bait gets tore up.All you need is some copper ties to secure them.( You can look at the pre-rigged and figure it out) I also like the balck/purple and the green/yellow islanders. I was pulling at about 7 mph. I use outriggers with the bait running just in or behind the wake coming off the boat where the bait and leader are in the water but not your mono. Short lines just behind the wash work too. If you like trolling, a boone bird with a ballyhoo or a daisy chain pulling up the rear can be productive too.I am not a pro but love to go and this is my learned method by trial and error as captain of my own boat.You have to get offshore. The bluer the water the better and a weedline is awesome if you can find one. Good Luck!

I agree - go to outcast and get the frozen bionic pre-rigged ballyhoo and put an ilander lure over it. Go out 25-30 miles and troll. I like to go to a reef/wreck and troll from one to the next near the edge. I wish it were that easy - wahoo can be an elusive creature.
