wishiniwasfishin07 (12/12/2007)torium 16. No reason to have a 30, it just has a bigger capacity, and is much heavier. Get the 16 and spool it with 65 or 80 Power pro.
is the torium16 built with the same drag capabilities and sized gears as the 30?

thats like saying you dont need an 80w to target big billfish, you just need a 30w with braid. that theory is wrong because you simply cant put the pressure on a fish with a 30 as you can an 80 or 130. the guts are different.

capacity is not the only difference in sizes of reels - even if they are the same make.

yes it is true. The guts are congruent, the capacities is the only thing that is different. The 16, 20, and 30 are all rated for 20 pounds max drag.

If planning on a grouper fishing rod, can't go wrong with the Penn 6/0. Your going to crank the drag down to get a fish off the bottom anyway. They are easy to fix and have probably caught more fish than the others combined. I wouldn't use it for an all around reel, strickly bottom bumping. You really need to build up a good quiver to have the best of every type of fishing. my .02
