Default Need some Pensacola Pass direction advice

I like to go offshore 3-5 miles but the waters going out of the pass seem always to have big swells slowing me down. Does anyone have a detour route they use regularly to avoid the swells? For instance, it might be good to go West just off the beach, then go a mile West, then turn South and go offshore 3-5 miles before turning East to cover the #1 buoy, 3 barges, ect. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Tight Lines.........

If you have a boat that doesn't draw over three feet and you are going to the Three barges or points to the SE. Just hug the East side of the pass. Stay a hundred yards off the beach and you will be fine. However there will be some big waves breaking on the sandbar to the Eastif the wind is blowing 15 knots out of the south. They will cease when you get about 1/4 mile around the East corner away from the incoming tide.

facing the pass, go out of it on the east side, once you pass the sand bar thats rough on the inward side of the pass it will be usually calmer than the rest. if you go out it using the main channel you will get caught in all the current which makes the waves. just watch the depth finder and stay to the eastern side. that side is always good also to throw a straw rig towards the beach to catch a few hard tails or skippies for fun. my boat is a 18'cc and this is how i come out the pass. hope this answers your question, good luck

I was heading for the pass and fort pickens from Big Lagoon state park and stayed to the left of the big sand island and came up on some six to seven foot chop, there was only about five feet between the tops of the chop and took a lot of water over the bow. I changed my mind and turned around and fished the lagoon and over night anchorage on the right side of the island. Can some one tell me whats up with that spot? Is it just a place to avoid unless you have a large boat?
